Ordinary People, Extraordinary Examples - Spain

The evangelists who share the good news of Jesus in the "ON THE RED BOX" ministry in Madrid are just ordinary people who have experienced salvation and have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Yes, they are ordinary, but their lives are a source of extraordinary examples of people committed to Jesus. They are participating in his mission to reach the world and rescue lives from the bondage of sin.

One of these extraordinary examples is Mirjam.  She displays bravery.  She chose to share her Christ encounter by giving her testimony standing on the red box in the open air evangelistic outreach.  Her bravery was shown in that she knew her coworkers were within earshot.  Mirjam shares her faith daily with customers and coworkers.

photo_4.jpegFlor's life is an example of growth in her faith.  The first time she gave her testimony on the red box, she had to be begged to do it.  But now, she does it with grace and anointing.  She is presently learning to be led by the Holy Spirit in preaching and in one on one conversations about Jesus.

David is an example of great passion.  He preaches his heart out every time he gets on the box.  He is so willing.  Christians and non-Christians alike are touched by his charismatic yet genuine way of presenting the gospel! David will be returning to Peru soon to be with his wife and two daughters.

Alejandra portrays obedience.  She came to be an intern at "On the Red Box" completely by faith as she had no money.  She said 'no' to a very good job offer in Mexico.  God honored her obedience to Him.  He not only moved in her life in unexpected ways, deepened her relationship with him and trained her in evangelism, but he also provided a better job to return to, ministry opportunities, and an open door to talk to her family about Christ.  She is now a light for truth in Mexico.

4/14 Window Congress - Spain

September 6 and 7 were exciting days in Madrid, Spain. AGWM Personnel, Steve and Tece Entsminger were part of a planning committee for a 4/14 Window Congress for the Spain Assemblies of God. The 4/14 Window missions strategy promotes the window of opportunity for children between the ages of 4 and 14 to hear and respond to the Gospel. It is a proven fact that the majority of people who have responded to the message of salvation have done so as children younger than 15. Due to this 10 year time span of great openness to the Gospel, this should be a strategy that the Church focuses on in efforts to go and make disciples of every creature in all nations.

A team from Promise Church in New York, leaders locally and internationally in the 4/14 Window movement, came to challenge and equip Spain Assemblies of God church leaders and workers. Nearly 200 people from at least 26 different churches from throughout Spain attended. Many expressed their excitement and commitment to reaching the children of Spain. It was an historical event for children's ministry.
image001.jpgAt this congress, churches formed into groups to talk about how they would reach the children of their community. Many ideas were shared with great passion. Pastor Ben Hur from Promise Church, NY challenged the participants to be multigenerational in their discipleship.

The representation from so many churches and from so many areas of Spain was impressive. Many pastors were present with interest in the 4/14 Window strategy.  The Entsmingers are convinced that “God has called us to Spain for such a time as this.”

Building Relationships Finding Christ in Spain

“Last spring, our two short-term workers were, Shane and Clay, recent graduates of the University of Virginia and committed members of the Chi Alpha group there. They were the first young men who had come to work with us for 6 months at Raíces (our student ministry center), and lived in the small apartment right on top of our center. They reached out to Spanish young men through the neighborhood and the University, and soon they had a large group of friends coming to watch soccer games and practice English together.

They reached out to Spanish young men through the neighborhood and the University, and soon they had a large group of friends coming to watch soccer games and practice English together.

frisbee_in_the_park.jpgOne of these young men, Jose (name changed for privacy), responded positively when Shane and Clay turned their conversations toward Christ.  The American young men shared their testimonies and talked about the work of Christ and what it means to follow God.  Jose became a good friend, and when Shane and Clay returned to the States in June, they made sure he knew that other American friends (new grads from UVA) would be arriving in September, ready to fill the gap and continue the conversation.  Shane and Clay used Skype to connect the young people coming in September with the friends they had made in Granada.  They also introduced Jose to friends at our local Spanish church.

Jose stayed connected over the summer, getting to know our Spanish Christian volunteers from the local church.  In the fall, when the Raíces center started up and new workers arrived, Jose was ready  to jump in and find out more about Christ, attending both Raíces Bible studies and small groups at church.  One evening at church he prayed to receive Jesus as his Savior, and since then has been eagerly involved in the Christian community and growing in his knowledge of Christ.  He and other Spanish young men are getting to know the Lord through the work of the young people at Raíces.  These young Christians, American and Spanish volunteers, are committed to sharing the love of Christ through their lives and their testimonies. “

Preparing for the Harvest in Spain

The On The Red Box evangelism team, based in Madrid, Spain has been diligently seeking the Lord for revival six days a week in its prayer room. God is leading them to prepare for it by training teachers and leaders. AGWM Personnel on the leadership team of On The Red Box, Kevin and Karen Prevost, tell of the teacher training program which has begun for equipping leaders to train others as well. Many of them have already had opportunities and invitations to teach evangelism in churches in cities around Spain. The Prevosts relate that “as we preach the gospel open air in downtown Madrid each day and people are coming to Jesus, we have seen the need to launch a discipleship program so they can affirm their decision to follow Jesus, build a firm spiritual foundation, and get connected to a local church.” The desire it to see these new believers in Christ growing and maturing in their Christian life. The Prevosts are also praying for a greater manifestation of Jesus’ anointing and power as they minister to people on the street and in the prayer room.
