Church Planting in Provins, France

Provins is a city of 12,000, an hour or so southeast of Paris. There is noevangelical church there and only one Protestant service per month. David Porter, AGWM personnel in France, took part in an outreach in the city with the goal of winning people to the Lord and eventually starting a church.

The outreach was sponsored jointly by the evangelical church in Romilly sur Seine and the Franck Alexandre evangelistic ministry.

The team consisted of 8-10 members each day. Responses from the people on the streets surprised them. On one day in particular, there seemed to be an "Open Heaven" as people listened to the Gospel in an area that people had warned might be dangerous. Even the immigrants with non-Christian backgrounds that were contacted there usually listened politely or had discussions with team members.

"I estimate that we had at least 150 good conversations out on the streets," David says. "I've been a missionary to Europe for over 30 years and I don't know when I've seen people so open to the message of Jesus."

Since the outreach, some who were contacted on the streets have visited a cell group that the Romilly church has near Provins. The prayer is that God will establish His Church there and raise up leaders for it.
