Reaching Bikers in Germany

AGWM personnel in Germany, Michael Tyler tells of an event that embraced a group of people who don’t look like the common“church goer”. The church plant of which the Tylers are a part teamed up with “The Holy Riders Motorcycle Club” and invited everyone they could contact right down to “The Hells Angels Motorcycle Club”. Mike said, “God blessed our efforts big-time. We had tons of bikes, tons of food, and an overall great atmosphere. The bikers were receptive, the community was receptive, and many first-time guests experienced Christ and his church in a new light. The plan now is to make this an annual event.”

We had tons of bikes, tons of food, and an overall great atmosphere. The bikers were receptive, the community was receptive, and many first-time guests experienced Christ and his church in a new light.  The plan now is to make this an annual event.”

The whole event was inspired by an article in the regional newspaper which stated how bikers were not accepted in most churches. The Tylers’ co-pastor, Gerhard, then made contact with a motorcycle group he knew about called the "Holy Riders" and asked for more details. Thomas, the leader of the group confirmed that the story was accurate.  So Gerhard determined to do something about it.

The "Holy Riders" are mostly men who have been saved out of very hard backgrounds, and they go back as a group into the places they used to hang out, to try to reach others in that lifestyle.  In the process of doing that, their lives and their words have made a powerful witness, and they have earned the respect of all of the other motorcycle groups.
