IKEA and God's Faithfulness

When Ashley and I first arrived in Grenoble, France, we had with us four suitcases full of mostly clothes and other essentials. In an effort to make our new apartment feel like home, we needed to make several trips to the Ikea down the road. Just a week or so into our time in France, Ashley and I braved the Swedish superstore and picked out a few items, including a couch, which we would move to our apartment using one of the Ikea rental vans. After standing in the same spot in Ikea for about an hour, attempting to decipher the rental vehicle instructions written in French while Ashley ran home to get our passports that we did not realize we needed to rent the van, we finally succeeded in renting one! It took us another 30 minutes to figure out how to unlock the van using only the mobile app and then maybe another 30 to find the keys hidden inside. We finally loaded up our couch and other items, and we were off! Since Ashley had been driving stick longer than I had, we decided she would drive the rental. Several stalls and a few tears later, we switched places. Making our way on to the highway, we realized that our van was twice the size of every other European vehicle on the road and wider than any parking spot in all of France, but several dents later, we made it back to the apartment. While we attempted to maneuver the couch through the side door of our building, our downstairs neighbor must have heard us and had pity on us. He leaned his head out the window and asked in English, “Do you need some help?” He then proceeded to help me carry our couch up five flights of stairs. Sometimes (often) our life is crazy, but God is so faithful. Dinner plans with our downstairs neighbor are currently in the works!
