The 8th Missions Week in the Assemblies of God church in Vitoria, Spain focused on the theme of reaching the world for Christ. Vitoria is the capital of the Basque provinces in the north of Spain with a population of almost 250,000. The church there is a vibrant, growing church with a congregation of about 250 people. AGWM personnel, Alister and Lindy Belbin, were invited to be part of this weekend. They shared with smaller groups on Friday and Saturday, and then again on Sunday morning for the final service. It began with a parade of nations. Each one of the participants came down the aisle dressed in the typical outfit of his country, proudly carrying and waving the flag. Alister brought three great messages with a different emphasis each night….”To other cities”, “To all the world”, and “Responding to the call”.
Last year, 2012, this church in Vitoria gave almost $24,000 to missions. They support 7 Spain missionaries, pastors in Cuba, a children’s home in Perú, Open Doors, Bible Society, a student studying in the Seminary, a feeding program in Burkina Faso plus others needs that arise throughout the year. Faith Promise cards were given out by the missions director, asking each one to pray about what God would them give through the year.
During the week there were several missions-related activities:
Tuesday there was a special time to meet to pray for each of the missionaries and families who have gone out from Spain. Spain has sent and supports missionaries in Perú, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Denmark, Romania, Honduras and Holland. Thursday a video was shown with an inspiring message from a Cuban pastor. The people of this congregation are responding to the call of God to take the Gospel to the world.
